we have it pretty good

You know, we have it pretty good. We don't have to move out of the house in the middle of the cold. Instead, our family is coming to us. Or so we think. right now they are semi stranded. They almost had to stay in Minneapolis, but found a flight to Memphis. I'm not too sure if they will make it here today. The added bonus is that I now know more airport codes then I did just a mere 24 hours ago. Oh yeah, we had snow on Christmas day. In New Orleans. Keep in mind that NO hasn't had snow on Christmas day since 1954. I;m guessing somebody is gonna call it a Godly sign. Not that a sign is a bad thing, just how it's interpretted. Merry Christmas, happy new year.

Mom's Letter

Greetings from the sunny south! It’s hard to believe how much time flies; it’s been sixth months since we moved from Milwaukee. The trip was great, taking about 16 hours of travel time. We, of course, stopped a few times and tried to make the most of this opportunity. I apologize for the delay in writing, but I’ve had a reason. We’ve already moved twice and I wanted to give you our most permanent address. When we first arrived, we took what we could get, a 1 bedroom apartment in Metairie. The apartment complex, Villa D Venus, is similar to what we had in Milwaukee, a complex that takes up an entire block, with a pool and a beautiful courtyard. The weather is always hot and very humid. For example, it’s still in the mid to high 80s! That’s tough for a Wisconsinite to get used to! The most troubling ...

Making Sense Out of Nonsense

Making sense of nonsense: Life in the land of Ivan Many thanks for your prayers, emails, and phone calls to us about evacuating for Hurricane Ivan. Luckily, it became a great practice plan instead of the real thing. As Florida has been planning for weeks, due to their disastrous summer, those of us in New Orleans had a gathered nonchalance about the weather activities of our sister gulf state. It wasn’t until Sunday that the weather forecasters began making recommendations about finding “your evacuation kit.” Evacuation kit? Hurricane plan? Did it involve a snow shovel? How about using kitty litter on ice? Those are about the only weather-related tricks I know. (Carrying kitty litter in your trunk not only can be used for icy spin-outs but as additional weight for traction.) Where were those types of helpful hints in hurricane country? We maintained the same attitude as the natives until I discovered that they had been covertly making hotel arrangements over the weekend. On Monda...
