Mom's Letter

Greetings from the sunny south!

It’s hard to believe how much time flies; it’s been sixth months since we moved from Milwaukee. The trip was great, taking about 16 hours of travel time. We, of course, stopped a few times and tried to make the most of this opportunity.

I apologize for the delay in writing, but I’ve had a reason. We’ve already moved twice and I wanted to give you our most permanent address. When we first arrived, we took what we could get, a 1 bedroom apartment in Metairie. We like the complex so much that we waited until a 2 bedroom became available. We put most of the things we moved in storage until September, when we moved to the larger apartment. The apartment complex, Villa D Venus, is similar to what we had in Milwaukee, a complex that takes up an entire block, with a pool and a beautiful courtyard. The weather is always hot and very humid. For example, it’s still in the mid to high 80s! That’s tough for a Wisconsinite to get used to!

The most troubling part for us was evacuating for Hurricane Ivan in September. What a surprise! We left our new apartment to travel 100 miles inland away from the potential hurricane. We left early enough and avoided the traffic gridlock.

The dog and Susan are doing well, both settling into their respective routines. Susan works downtown and commutes 12 miles to our suburb. We all miss you.
